Get all you need to feed Dads and Grads at the market!

dear shoppers,

Looks like we’ll be dodging raindrops once again at the market tomorrow. Please come out and get all your fixins’ for a Father’s Day feast. Sure, you can get Dad a tie, golf clubs, or camping gear, but you know what he really wants is to spend some time around the Weber with his family.

Lots to grill at the market tomorrow: Roaming Angus should have plenty of steaks in his coolers. His chicken this year is fantastic: very tender and full of flavor. Mtn. Smokehouse is bringing their popular lamb and rosemary sausage and bbq-friendly brats. Gaia’s Breath is back with their gorgeous cuts of Black Heritage Pork. And, of course, what Dad wouldn’t love a thick tuna or swordfish steak on the grill?

Have you tried the Horman’s pickles yet? My family went NUTS over the butter pickles. SO tasty…right out of the tub. With all the graduation parties coming up…make sure you pick up some goat cheese for noshing and some smoked trout from Lenny Bee for dips, salads or to nibble with crackers.

Tomorrow is a special day at the market as we are proud to have on display for a few hours only, the Hillside Fourth Grade’s handmade large-scale timeline of lower Manhattan spanning the last 400 years. The second grade will also be showing off their large-scale model of rural, suburban and urban communities. Make sure you factor in some time to take both projects in when you come to the market to do your shopping.

Greetings from Anywhere will be performing in the music tent. We always have a raucous good time when they are here.

See you at the market!

Grill up some pork chops for Dad on Sunday with this week’s recipe from Fine Cooking.

after the deluge…STRAWBERRIES!

dear shoppers, From strawberry fields to strawberry shortcake, the sweet, cone-headed strawberry is undoubtedly the most popular and beloved of all the berries. But did you know that the strawberry is actually a member of the “rose” family? and that the Romans believed that the strawberry was therapeutic and could heal anything from loose teeth toContinue Reading

Let’s spend the next 26 Saturdays together!

dear shoppers, Looks like we’re jumping into summer feet first. 96 degrees! Really? The market is also kicking off its summer season with a bang. As always you can expect a FULL HOUSE tomorrow when we go back to our weekly schedule and our 8:30 a.m. starting time. It’s nice that everyone wants to be here forContinue Reading

Will the chill kill the grill?

dear shoppers, I should be brushing off the grill for weekend cookouts and, instead, I just pulled some Nigel Slater boeuf Bourguignon we made this winter out of the deep freeze for dinner. What gives? Possible snow on Memorial Day weekend? Seriously? The good news is that all this rain is Manna from heaven forContinue Reading

Mother’s Day and the Market

dear shoppers, You know it’s an important day when all AYSO soccer matches are canceled. Yes, Mother’s Day is upon us. That means moms everywhere will wake up on Sunday desperately wanting coffee but being ordered to stay put for that once a year extravaganza: breakfast in bed. The Hastings Farmers Market will have lots of itemsContinue Reading
