Make the market an oasis in a fresh-food desert for SNAP* shoppers

WHY:

  • Times are tough, and food stamps usage is up in Westchester
  • There are no farmers markets that accept food stamps between Mt. Vernon and Ossining
  • Much of the food sold at the Hastings market qualifies for food stamps
  • Food-stamps shoppers need more options, and we can help

The Hastings Farmers Market is blessed to have a loyal corps of volunteers who help in myriad ways from setting up the market at 7 a.m. to answering shoppers' questions and selling straw baskets.

But we could always use more hands – and support.

It's a lot of work to set up and take down the market every Saturday so if you like that sort of thing, please come see us at the market tent and let us know. Or, contact Patty Duff, our volunteer coordinator at Pduff412@aol.com

Not all jobs are such a big commitment or as labor intensive. We also need "clickers" to help us count shoppers every month for example.

As popular as the market is, we could always use more publicity. So if marketing is your niche and you have some time to give us, please let us know. We are also always on the lookout for graphic design and fundraising experts, too.

There are so many ways you help us out financially, from throwing some dollars in the kids crafts' supply bucket, to underwriting our music and/or children's programs (yoga, storytelling) or paying for a café table or tent.
