In honor of the Wizard of Oz’ 80th Anniversary, Hastings-on-Hudson is turning into Hastings-OZ-Hudson! There are a number of events around town this Saturday celebrating the Village’s strong connections to the film. We’ll be handing out free ruby-red slipper cookies, courtesy of Meredith’s Bakery and Dough Nation is whipping up Oz-inspired pizzas. After you hit the Market, head to The Good Witch Coffee Bar by the train station and bring the kids for some fun family activities. Then follow the yellow balloons downtown for more fun before returning to the Good Witch for some bubble fun! Cap off the day with your blanket and a free outdoor screening of the movie on the library lawn at 7:30

The Village has a strong connection to the classic film: Billie Burke, better known as Glinda the Good Witch made her home in Hastings along with her husband Florenz Ziegfeld and daughter Patricia. They lived in their Hastings mansion, named Buckley Crest, until the stock market crash of ‘29, The estate was later gifted to the Hastings school system by a subsequent owner and the house was demolished to create sports fields for Hastings students.

Another film-related resident was Frank Morgan, the Wizard. He grew up on Calumet with his parents and 10 siblings!

Healthy on Hudson is cooking up another healthy, market-inspired dish, using ingredients that you can get from our farms and vendors. Stop by for the cooking demo at 10 and pick up a delicious sample!
