The countdown begins...less than three weeks until Thanksgiving! This Saturday is the last weekend to pre-order your turkey from Southtown Farms and your classic pumpkin pie from Pie Lady & Son. Need a gluten-free option? Head to Meredith’s Bread to order a GF tart in a variety of flavors.
If you’re still searching for some show-stopping sides to accompany your beautifully-basted bird, look no further than Wrights Farm’s recipe for stuffed cheese pumpkin.
Preheat your oven to 375. Hollow a 3 to 4 pound cheese pumpkin from their tent and season with salt and pepper.
Line the pumpkin with days-old French bread that has been toasted and sliced. Stuff the pumpkin with a mix of 3/4 pound Gruyere cheese, 3/4 of a package of bacon, cooked and chopped, 3/4 cup chopped chives, four cloves of chopped garlic, and a sprig of thyme.
Pour in ¾ of a cup of heavy cream mixed with nutmeg until mixture is moist but not swimming in cream.
Roast in a cast iron or sheet pan with the pumpkin top on for 90 minutes.
Finally, remove the top from pumpkin and finish baking for 30 minutes.
While you’re strolling the Market for your weekly shop, stay warm with a cup of pozole verde from Mariachi Mexico. This classic Mexican soup is made with hominy, shredded pork, and chile broth and topped off with sliced radishes from the market, natch. It’s full of flavor AND heat — important for Saturday’s cold temps.
Hallie’s Baking Co. makes their last visit of the season with delicious cookies that freeze well for the upcoming holiday season.. Their cookies are thick, gooey, dense and SO good! They’re ideal for a cozy snack on a cold night, when you curl up with a warm cup of tea and a good book, perhaps Margaret Atwood’s sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale.
As we near the end of another wonderful summer season, please help us plan for next year by taking our brief online survey (estimated time 2 minutes). Your input will help the market provide for the needs of our customers and community.
Ian Moore performs from 10:30am-12:30pm. See you at the Market!
