A guiding hand..
So this week we head back to our regular Covid location in the rear section of the commuter lot. We hope that having all the vendors on one level for a couple of weeks gave you a new perspective on the market and helped you discover vendors you might not have noticed before.
Breaking from patterns can be a good thing...especially in the kitchen. Between the market location moves and how flush the produce bins are this time of year, we understand that shopping can be overwhelming at times. Yes, you come armed with a shopping list, but then you get distracted by an adorable Doodle, or a friend you haven't seen since your yoga studio closed, or your kid's Pre-K teacher.
We get it. So this week, we offer you a helping hand with a list of TEN things not to miss at the market this week. Of course, there are so many more than ten...but consider these your "first" stops.
1. Wil Hi Farm is here for their once-monthly visit with all things sheep and lamp. This late in the season they have everything in stock, from osso bucco to sausage to chops, racks and roasts, only in smaller amounts. So get there early! Also, don't forget to pick up some wool from their Rambouillet sheep. Their colors are truly stunning.
2. La Petite Occasion is bringing the last caramel apples of the season. They will have lots of caramels going forward, just not the gooey gourmet apples, so enjoy one while you still can!
3. The Concord grapes have landed at the Wrigth's Farm tent. As sweet as they are pretty, a cluster of these beauties is just the thing to elevate your cheese platter
4. Pick up some orange marmalade, both regular and spicy, from Marcelina Orange Treats. Either one is delicious on toasted Bien Cuit baguette or pain de mie or with Wave Hill brioche.
5. The herbaceous grilled lavash wraps at the Hamov Eh tent.
6. The new Shepherd's Pie chili at Homespun Chili because I predict there will be one night next week when you won't feel like cooking. Maybe even Sunday, after raking all day.
7. The celery at Morgiewicz Produce because it's the best-tasting celery there is. Perfect for dipping into sauces from Hamov Eh (Armenian dips) but also, adds fantastic flavor to any soup base.
8. Smoked mussels or smoked scallops from Pura Vida because they'll knock your socks off. Pricey, but so rich, a small amount will do. Buy a little of each, then invite some friends over for a mixed drink made with spirits from Springbrook Hollow Distillery. Easy peasy.
9. Rose Swan Pottery is visiting us this week, as we continue to celebrate our local artists at the market.
10. Watermelon radish at Stoneberry Farm because they are so darn pretty and you can adorn so many things with them, from smoked trout on toasts, to grain bowl salads to your favorite harvest salad. While you're there, pick up some mustard greens so you can make this fall-friendly white bean and mustard greens soup.
See you at the market!
