Happy St. Patrick's Day on behalf of the Hastings Farmers Market where small patches of (barely) green lawn may actually be visible at the market this Saturday. No promises.

What we can guarantee are produce bins brimming with all things green, from baby spinach and kale to spicy mustard greens and salad mixes, to fenugreek and fennel fronds.

You'll also find some other touches of green at La Petite Occasion, where confectioner Michele Kim has dusted her popular toffee crunch with pistachio crumbs. Wave Hill Breads is bringing their traditional soda bread. Not green but reliably delicious, especially with a bit of creamery butter from the Cooperstown Cheese tent.

You'll find green basil tucked in the goat cheese scones at Noble Pies. As a farewell to winter they are bringing back two of their cold weather favorites, Sweet Potato Pecan pie and their "Thanksgiving Dinner" pie (hey, they use Wave Hill's sourdough in the stuffing!). We are so happy they are now making their version of quiche Lorraine as we all miss the French nuns who used to sell quiche at the market. (We are trying to get them back!)

Don't forget to order your corned beef from R&M Farms.

Pizza Vitale will be scattering deep green arugula on its pizzas (we hear a collaboration between Hudson Valley Fisheries and Pizza Vitale is in the works in the form of a smoked trout pie). And, Leila's Crepes is always folding fresh market greens into their crepe wedges.

Sorry, no Irish whiskey...but you can pick up some Adirondack Rye from Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery. If hard cider is more your jig, you're in luck because Abandoned Hard Cider joins the market this week.

A chance encounter between a master kombucha maker and a modern-day Johnny Appleseed five years ago led to the creation of this small and unique cidery in Neversink, N.Y. They make their flavor-packed cider with apples that are foraged and salvaged from wild, abandoned and back-yard orchards they find in the Catskills and throughout the Hudson Valley. How "green" is that? Find out more about Eric Childs and Martin Bernstein, the duo behind the cider, at www.abandonedcider.com.

Finally, make sure you look for the green banner on the Hastings Educational Foundation (HEF) hot cocoa truck which will be parked at the market form 11 a.m. to 11:45. They will be handing out complimentary hot cocoa to market shoppers...a reminder to support your local schools!

See you at the market!
