I was talking to a farmer on Monday about the drastic temperature swings this past week – from early-morning field frost to 82ºF and sunny?

Remember when farmers could rely on an almanac? Honestly said the farmer, "nothing has been predictable for the last ten years. We've adapted to the unpredictable."

What is predictable? As soon as the dogwoods bloom and the cardinals croon, Hive Juice Lab brings out their coveted fuchsia Jungle Plum Juice and Painted Goat Farm returns to the market with their popular goat feta, pyramids and logs.

And, Sam Ritter, of Sea Change Flower & Farm also joins in the fun with her stunning blossoms. She'll only have a few flowers to start but she'll be taking orders for Mother's Day tulips and more. You will be able to pick up your orders at next Sunday's market in Irvington, which happens to fall on Mother's Day. (you see, we thought of everything!)

In other good news... Growing Hearts Farm has developed such a cult following here they've decided to stay with us through the summer. They may miss a couple of markets early in the season in order to fulfill their prior commitments to other markets but rest assured, their greens will be a summer staple.

Here's a spring soup recipe that straddles the seasons and is just perfect for this whipsaw weather. This spring minestrone also ticks those boxes.

We are ordering new t-shirts in new colors and in all sizes (including onesies) for the summer season and, fingers crossed, they will be ready on opening day.

Also, no doubt you've heard about the changes in CDC protocols about wearing masks outdoors. Please understand that, for the time being, we are still requiring masks for entry to the market as we do qualify as a large group gathering.

As luck would have it, Diana Green is back with her lovely assortment of hand-sewn masks in cool fabrics as well as aprons and totes any Mother would love.

Don't forget to pick up some herb and flower seedlings on Saturday. Orchards of Concklin has started bringing their rolling cart of potting flowers. Sun Sprout Farm and Homegrown Nursery Farm also have lots of herbs for your window sill.

A gentle reminder, also, that the southernmost parking bay in the commuter lot is an EXIT lane ONLY during market hours. Please do not ENTER from that lane as it creates quite a bit of havoc in the parking lot. Thank you!

See you at the market!
