You know how that one ends!

It will come as little surprise, then, to learn that August 8th is National Leave Zucchini On Your Neighbor’s Porch Day. We may have passed that important holiday, but have no fear, our stalwart farmers will have all manner of crispy zucchini and assorted summer squashes for your enjoyment. Try this quick, delightfully refreshing recipe for Marinated Zucchini. Enjoy it with a luscious filet mignon from R & M farms now…or store it in the fridge to enjoy on a warm late-September day, when you’re missing the summer zucchini explosion.

Exciting news from Harlem Valley Homestead: smoked beef hot dogs and rosemary plum jam will make their market debut! Made with pasture-raised beef, these franks are a fun addition to their other cuts of beef as well as heritage-breed, forest-raised pork; all great for cooking in any manner you like! The lovely rosemary plum jam is made with farm-grown rosemary and local plums. Rosemary fronds are used whole and fresh, imparting an essence that is both bright and balanced. Their jam compliments both sweet and savory: equally delicious on a Harlem Valley pork chop or smeared on a shortbread cookie.

If a savory pie or show-stopping dessert is your jam please make the Noble Pie tent a stop on your market rounds. Grandma Fowler’s famous Lemon Custard pie replaces meringue with buttery, flaky crust. On the savory front, you’ve got to grab yourself a Sweet and Spicy Meat Pie. I assure you: this is no ho-hum meat pie! Rich, sweet, and spicy with a Middle Eastern edge, inspired by the great Chef Ottolengi. Ground beef and sausage from Sweetmans Farm, caramelized onions, and whole eggs are wrapped in a savory butter crust.

Also deserving of a special shout-out, those vendors who join us less-frequently: Painted Goat will be in his usual spot under the bridge, with a selection of earthy and vibrant goat cheeses. North Winds Lavender Farm is back with her fragrant lavender; good for whatever ails you! Food is Med joins us and his crunchy micro-greens and special tinctures are not to be missed. Om Champagne Tea’s probiotic, slightly sparkling elixirs are on offer, as well.

Saturday’s market is bursting at the seams! Enjoy freshly made food from one of our two food trucks: Leila’s Crepes or Pizza Vitale…or both! And please don’t forget Ready, Set, Sharp. Matt is located outside the market proper, but he’ll have your knives, weed whackers, or gardening shears expertly sharpened while you shop.

Please remember: if you can’t seem to find your favorite vendor, stop by the market tent and ask. We’re more than happy to point you in the right direction. See you at the market!
