Last Sunday I took my daughter, Sabine, to Mariachi Mexico for dinner in Armonk. Their chef/owner, Hastings resident (and proud new auntie, Joana Herrera) shops the market with such fervor every Saturday looking for specific items for her menu and, for some seasonal inspiration, too.

It was so nice to see EVERY SINGLE ONE of our farms listed on her jewel of a restaurant's menu board (see photo). It was especially nice to recognize the fairy tale eggplant from Sun Sprout that turned up in my vegetarian tacos, and to see the French radish from Stoneberry sitting pretty on a plate instead of stacked in a wooden crate as we normally see them.

We miss having Joana prepare her tacos at the market on Saturday mornings, but we are so grateful that she is still at the market each week and taking farm-to-table cooking so literally. And the payoff.. well, it left us speechless. (can you say pea shoot guacamole?) Next week she'll be doing a series of cooking demos and serving tequila cocktails in her outside seating area. Go check it out!

Lots of rotating vendors this Labor Day weekend!

Make sure to look for Heimat Liqueur who hasn't been here since early July. She will be packing her new Heimat Elderflower Liqueur made with elderflower blossoms plucked from the Hudson Valley. Delicate and not too sweet. Also, Neversink Spirits and Manor Sangria are here to help you ease into a new year of schedules, carpools, homework and early-morning wardrobe crises.

Also, don't forget to pick up some goat cheese buttons coated in bright green herbs and feta cheese from Painted Goat Farm.

And the corn at Morgiewicz Produce is just so darn good right now. At Mariachi Mexico, we had a perfect esquites dish, which is the salad version, really, of elote, the popular Mexican grilled street corn with garlicky mayonnaise. Try to make your own with this recipe from Serious Eats. Or make this grilled corn and avocado salad with a feta cheese dressing and a California vibe. Perfect alongside a grilled steak, strip, skirt or otherwise, smothered in blistered cherry tomatoes. Come to think of it, blistered cherry tomatoes taste good on everything, from ricotta toast, to steamed cod or morning eggs.

The PTSA is back with more school merch! Spirit Day is apparently going to be a regular thing this year so buy lots!

See you at the market!
