Ten things (among 100s) to seek out at the market this week!
Lots going on at the market this week! First, we will be hosting a Halloween costume swap this Saturday and next. PLEASE bring any costumes you no longer need to the market and drop them off at the swap tent and take something home that tickles your fancy. No need to donate a costume to take a costume, though. If you can’t get to the market this weekend but want to drop some costumes off, please reach out to me to make other arrangements.
Next up, Equalize Fitness, our newest market sponsor, is hosting a fun “How High Can You Jump” activity at the market. They are also raffling off a three-month membership prize to their You can get a ticket at the market or here if you can’t make it down on Saturday.
Clearly there will be lots of distractions at a time of year, when the market can already be overwhelming: So. Much. Good. Grub.
Sometimes, we like to make a list of “must haves” to help you navigate the yum.
1. The bagel guy is back. ‘Nuf said. Get to the market early as his bagels disappear faster than a British prime minister.
2. Blondery has created a sister company: Peekskill Cookie Company
selling just-baked extra-large cookies big enough to share. (Though may take some convincing.)
3. The pretty napa cabbage at Stoneberry Farm to make your own kimchi or this creamy cabbage and bacon gratin.
4. Pura Vida has gorgeous fluke to make this fluke poke with coconut rice and pickled-onions. Dan pickles red onions from Sun Sprout Farm all the time at our house and we add them to absolutely everything from tacos to salads to baked potatoes. So easy!
5. Come to the market hungry because the XOLO Food Truck is in the house. Lucky, lucky us. (“Is the XOLO Food truck here today?” is the question vendors ask most since Carlos and Daisy joined our team).
6. Are you scraping the bottom of your NOOMI peanut butter jar with your finger? Time to restock!
7. Michele Kim of La Petite Occasion is bringing her fall caramel apples.
8. The Sconery returns with their fall galette and inspired scones.
9. Get out your favorite knitting needles and fall lamb recipes: Wil-HI Farm is bringing beautiful skeins of wool and coolers full of lamb cuts. Grab some celery from Morgiewicz to make this Persian lamb stew.
10. Snap dragon apples. They are the perfect size, are both tart and sweet and cast a hint of vanilla. My new favorite apple. Hands down.
