Red, White and Blueberries!

A long weekend stretches ahead of us: July 4th, the quintessential summer holiday. These are fraught times and we hope your holiday will be filled with family, friends, laughter, and good, local food! We can certainly help with the latter.

The fine folks at Harlem Valley Homestead are (gasp!) taking a vacation this week, but fear not! R&M Farms has all of the things you’re going to want to throw on your grill this 4th of July (well, except for zucchini, eggplant, and carrots (yes!), which you can pick up from Sun Sprout Farm): pastured pork, chicken breasts, and almost every cut of grass-fed beef you can think of!

MOMO Dressing makes their monthly appearance! Blink and you'll miss them so stock up on their Japanese dressings and edamame hummus. Their tangy Ginger Dressing, sprightly greens and radishes from Stoneberry Farm, and fabulous cremini from Madura Farm and your summer salad is complete. For an extra treat, crumble on some Painted Goat Horseradish and Parsley Chevre. Their herd of roughly 80 goats – Nubians, Alpines, and a few La Manchas – grazes over 100 acres of rolling hills in upstate New York.

Invited to a friend’s backyard? Pick up some gorgeous soaps from Ash Hopper Soap as a thank -you gift: a fan favorite is Egyptian Rose Geranium. (For yourself, pick up their unique Blueberry Skin Serum, soothing for dry summer skin). Of course, if you prefer your hostess gifts bottled, you’ll want to visit Heimat Liqueur, for a sensational, seasonal quaff like Rhubarb or Raspberry Liqueur or Springbrook Hollow Distilleries for some Two Sisters Vodka or a bright Lemoncello. Freefall Sangria is also a perfect no fuss, no muss party beverage and it comes in both red and white iterations.

No BBQ would be complete without some AYA Hummus: Lemon Basil is Jenny’s current market special. Kontoulis Family Olive Oil’s Fig Infused Balsamic Vinegar is so lovely drizzled over the new market tomatoes, or over a thick slice of a Wave Hill Breads baguette; topped with McGrath Cheese’s creamy Bambino. Enjoy while the grill heats up! Pick up some Wildflower Honey from Hudson River Apiaries to drizzle over blue cheese toast points topped with the first stone fruit of the season and microgreens from Food is Med Farms.

What to do with all the blueberries coming in to join the strawberries at market? You can make a mixed berry crumble of course, or you can make this refreshing lemon curd with berries.

We’re thrilled to introduce a new, plant-based food truck to our Morning Glory Markets family. Carlos Alonso, of XOLO, crafts exquisite Mexican favorites with a twist: they are completely meat-free though you'd never know it. Treat yourself to a breakfast burrito or torta or “carnitas” taco made with shredded mushrooms; you will not believe the depth and flavor of his vegetarian creations! For the time being, XOLO accepts only cash so plan accordingly!

As always, Green Tree recycling will have a bin set up for your textile donations.

See you at the market!
