Help us break a world record at the market this Saturday for a GREAT cause! • 07/16/2022
Please join marketing guru - and Hastings resident - Seth Godin this Saturday in his efforts to set a record for the largest simultaneous book signing in the world. For the past six months, Seth has worked with 2,000 people across 91 countries to create a new book, The Carbon Almanac. The book, which is endorsed by Jane Goodall and Bette Midler among others, doesn’t just sound the alarm about climate change, but offers concrete ways we can help, hence the tagline "A powerful tool to help us create change, right here and right now."
Seth has written the forward for the book. Its creators hope to set a world record for the largest simultaneous book signing while sending a vital message about how to save our planet.
Our gem of a local bookstore, Galapagos Books, is providing the copies for Seth to sign. He will be at the market from 8:30 until about 10:45 a.m. or until he runs out of copies. If you want to be a part of this effort, which is going to be live-streamed worldwide, get to the market early! You can read more about this event here.
Now back to our regular programming:
It is pure coincidence that the market will feel a little more “French” on Saturday, the same week that France celebrates Bastille Day. Not only is Escargot Voyageur making sweet crepes laced with lemon and sugar and Fleur de Sel, but our favorite "lavender lady" is here, as are Larchmont Charcuterie with their authentic French saucisson sec and pate, and Painted Goat Farm with their French-style goat cheese buttons and logs. Plus, we are so excited to introduce you to a NEW vendor, Eltee's Goods, specializing in tomato jams. Each Tommy Jam jar contains one pound of heirloom tomatoes from Hudson River Valley, New Jersey and Pennsylvania farms. They come in three flavors, including Tommy en Provence which fits right into our accidental theme.
If spreads are your thing, then make sure to stop by the Hamov Eh tent, for some parsley tahini spread to elevate any and all pita or lavash summer sandwiches.
Sofia’s Feast returns with her creative hand-made pastas made with heritage grains, many of them gluten-free. This week she also brings several sauces celebrating the bounty of summer's peak: Roasted Eggplant & Cherry Tomato Confit, Marinated Chickpeas with Preserved lemon, garlic chips and aleppo and a basil-scape pesto with walnuts. “All are vegan and gluten free,” says Sofia. “And don’t necessarily have to be eaten with pasta.” Good to know.
Charlotte’s Home Kitchen is here strutting her head-turning gluten-free cakes. And Ash Hopper hand-crafted soaps, which are all about sustainability, are also here.
Other occasional vendors to seek out this week: Forward Roots Kimchi and Mountaintop Maple Syrup and of course, this being the third Saturday of the month, our trusty knife sharpener, Ready Set Sharp. Wright's Farm is bringing their first Dilly Beans of the season! Huzzah.
And the first apricots of the season should be rolling in.
See you at the market!
