All the fall feels

Have you done your summer/winter clothes swap yet? We are smack in that stretch of time when your warmest summer clothes won’t cut it, and yet, it’s not cold enough for a jacket or coat.

This is when you reach for that favorite sweater or fleece. The one that makes everything feel cozy and right. You know what the food equivalent of that favorite sweater is? Lasagna!

Truly, there are few dishes that make you appreciate the inevitable arrival of colder weather than lasagna. Especially a seasonal one like butternut squash lasagna, just the dish you can get everyone in the family to happily gather around.

Also, since leeks are in peak season why not make a belly-warming pot of leek soup. Pick up extra leeks this week to use instead of regular onions to start your soups or risottos. Their elegant and delicate flavor really shines through. They taste so sweet when roasted, you might consider this caramelized leek tart as a main course. Serve with frisée salad or some spicy salad greens from Thousand Leaf Gardens as a counterpoint. This is also peak mushroom season so do make a mushroom and frizzled leek risotto, another dish that brings up those cozy Fall feels.

Serve this Love & Lemons recipe for baked delicata squash with apples and sage on the side.

For serious cooks/bakers only: Harlem Valley Homestead will be bringing beef suet and pork lard rendered down in shelf-stable jars this weekend. (Beef suet is a type of fat that comes from the area around the kidneys and loins of cattle. It’s often used in traditional British dishes like Christmas pudding, mincemeat, and suet pastry. However, it's also a versatile cooking ingredient that can add flavor and richness to many different dishes.)

Saturday we welcome both Bombay Chutney Co. and MOMO Dressing, two vendors packing delicious condiments and who come but once a month.

When seasons change is when you need to pay extra attention to your skin. Stop by the Ash Hopper Botanical Skincare tent for some caring advice.
