Bring a peach to the beach...

dear shoppers, We've hit summer's sweet spot: the fuzzy, juicy peach has arrived -- king of the stone fruit. When I was a kid I'd have to peel peaches for my dad who was allergic to their skin but couldn't resist their sweet flesh.

My sister and I would squabble over the peach peeling privilege.

Trolling the web I found this great  recipe for peach lavender jam from loveandoliveoil.com and I just had to share it because of the gorgeous lavender Neversink Farm has been bringing to market, in tight bunches, adding yet another touch of Provence to our parking lot market.-

This is the THIRD Saturday of the month. That means the knife sharpener is here. So don't forget your dull blades.

It also means Clean Ridge Soap Co. will be back (speaking of lavender & all things fragrant floral and herbal).

Technically, it also means Saratoga Crackers should be here but they've asked to come next week instead this month. Their crackers are SO irresistible...how could we say no?

For those of you who are into fermented tea - you'll be happy to know that Champagne Kombucha Tea will now be coming twice a month, including this Saturday. (I am hooked on their turmeric-flavored Kombucha.)

Third Saturdays are also when we hold our "glean on me" program. That's where you buy a head of lettuce (or a loaf of bread, or pint of cherries) for yourself and also buy one for a Hastings family in need. There will be baskets set up in front of our market table for that purpose. You provide, we deliver. How easy is that?

Once again, we will be treated to a cooking demo by chef/nutritionist Marti Wolfson. This week she is preparing a mixed kale salad with a honey lime vinaigrette.

The recipe will be posted on our website, www.hastingsfarmersmarket.org

Music this week is provided by Adam Hart & Ken Tucillo.

See you at the market...

Pascale
