Stock up for Labor Day BBQs

Fall is starting to creep in. It's going to be 77 this Saturday and after the HOT summer we've had, we're glad for a cooler market day. Our farmers and producers are all stocked for the holiday weekend so stop by for you BBQ provisions (and back-to-school lunches.) Tomatoes are in abundance this time of year, and there is nothing as delicious as a tomato sandwich, where the fruit (or veggie) is the star of the plate. We're thrilled that Hastings residents Bev Roche and Coco Zordan will be on hand to show us how to make nutritious and easy sandwiches with staples you can get at the market. (Thanks Food52 for the inspiration) Stop by between 9 and 11 to sample their creations and learn how to make them. They make great lunch meals. 53bae431-db14-467d-b8a2-e61b2d30ca04--Tomato-Grid_2000x3200

Also stock up on other lunch necessities like saucisson sec (Larchmont Charcuterie,) cheese (Stone & Thistle Farm is bring Sherman Hill Farmstead Cheeses,) nut butters (The Peanut Principle.) and kid-sized juices (Red Jacket Orchards). And of course, the requisite apples. The Orchards of Concklin has been selling out of their first harvests so get there early to get enough for the week. While you're there, pick up a bag of donuts and a jar of applesauce for an after-lunch sweet.

AnnaMaria's Northern Italian Jams is back with pasta sauces! Their Torino Tomato Pasta Sauce is a thick “stick to your pasta” sauce that is heightened with oregano, basil, garlic and capers. Their Milano Tomato Pasta Sauce has a forest earthiness thanks to the porcini mushrooms.

A new prepared food vendor, Anthi's Greek Food will bring the taste of the Mediterranean to the market. They have been delighting Smorgasburgfoodies and we're excited to welcome them to Hastings. Stop by and say hi.

See you at the market!
