It’s befitting that the last weekly market of the season is always before the busiest cooking holiday of the year — Thanksgiving. Our last summer season market coincides with the time of year when you need the finest, freshest ingredients from local farms and food artisans. We’re here to meet those needs. Sun Sprout and Morgiewicz Produce will be fully stocked with squashes, sweet and white potatoes, onions, herbs, fennel, and more. TWO guest farms — 4E Organic Farm and Growing Hearts Farm — are also coming to to ensure everyone’s baskets overflow with seasonal produce. They’ll have spinach, cherry tomatoes, salad greens, and root vegetables. Scrambling for some vegetable-forward dishes for the Thanksgiving table? Food 52 has you covered with this recipe collection. Some of those recipes call for mushrooms, which can be found at Harlem Valley Homestead.
If you pre-ordered your bird, Southtown Farms will be in a different location to better facilitate pick-up: they’ll be at the drive-way entrance where the pizza truck usually is. If you forgot to pre-order Matt will a few birds that aren’t reserved, but you’ll have to get to the Market early to get one.
Also, think beyond the main course. Will you need a cheese and charcuterie board for folks to nosh on while waiting for the meal or for the kitchen prep crew? Mangalitsa by Mosefund and Cooperstown Cheese Co. can help you with a cheese and charcuterie board. Don't forget to pick up pickles from Dr. Pickle for turkey sandwiches after the big day! And, Peasant bread and Miche loaves from Wave Hill Breads and Bien Cuit, of course.
Too shy to bake a pie? You can find classic American pies at Meredith’s Bread or Pie Lady & Son and French fruit tarts at the Fraternite de Notre Dame table. Need to satisfy pint-size sweet tooths? Hallie’s Baking Co has what kids and grownups alike crave: scrumptious, gooey cookies. If you plan on toasting with bubbly, make sure everyone can participate, even those who can’t or won’t drink alcohol. Champagne OM Tea is visiting again with sparkling kombucha. You could also add some seltzer to Concklin’s apple cider.
End your epic market shop with some warm pozole from Mariachi Mexico. Enjoy now because we won’t see them again until June. If you need something a bit easier to maneuver with all of your bags, try a spring roll from VNFood2Go. While you’re there, pick up some of their pumpkin rolls: a great alternative to dinner rolls!
Last week we forgot to make a mention in this newsletter of our monthly gleaning. Sadly, our donation basket reflected this oversight and we did not collect as much as we hoped for. So we’re hosting another Thanksgiving-edition gleaning for the Hastings Food Pantry. Please consider buying an extra bag of carrots or apples for local families in need, so that they too can enjoy the Thanksgiving bounty of the Hudson Valley.
Please remember our next market will be in two weeks on December 7th. We’re still outside in the library lot but the hours are shorter and the vendor list is scaled down.
With deep gratitude, we wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.
