Pies. They've been missing from the market. Red Barn Bakery has been bringing a few mile-high organic fruit pies to the market twice a month, but it's been hard to fill the giant void left by Pie Lady & Son after they filed for bankruptcy early on in the pandemic.

Enter Noble Pies. Noble Pies is a small family-owned bakery in Warwick, NY. specializing in both sweet AND savory pies, all made from scratch. "Pie has always been a staple comfort food in our home," says Leslie Noble. They started baking pies for others and selling them from the side of the road when they lost their equestrian business in 2008.

Leslie says they hope to "solve the problem for the consumer who’s looking for comfort food" with their heirloom baking techniques and recipes from Leslie's great grandmother who lived to be 103. One of the recipes is called "Will you Marry me Cherry." Yes, they are bringing it this week along with: apple, blueberry, mixed berry, chocolate cream, and Leslie's Lime. Savory selections include Buffalo chicken pot pie and vegetable quiche made with local, seasonal vegetables. We think they'll fit right in, don't you? Please give them a typical, warm Hastings welcome.

The Orchards of Concklin will be bringing more corn this week. Their first batch sold pretty quickly last week. Morgiewicz Produce will be bringing theirs soon.

Sun Sprout has chioggia and golden beets and eggplant, too. Chioggia beets look like candy canes when you slice them. They lose their whimsical striping when you cook them so best to eat them raw, in very thin slices. Here's a salad recipe that showcases these beets' visual beauty. It calls for fresh mint which is spreading across the market right now, and for queso fresco, which you can find at McGrath Cheese Co.  Prefer feta?  The Painted Goat is here this week with their sharp goat milk feta.

July is blueberry month. If you are making blueberry pancakes this weekend make sure you pick up a bottle (or two) of Mountaintop Maple Syrup.

Northwinds Lavender Farm is bringing lavender plants and products that would make great hostess gifts if you are staying at someone's home this summer.

This is the third week of the month and that means the knife sharpener is joining us. Bring your pruning shears, kitchen knives and scissors to the market and Matt will have them ready for you by the end of your market shop.

The third Saturday is also "gleaning day" at the market, which means we usually take collections for the Hastings Food Pantry. As much as we'd love to put our pretty baskets out for you to fill with tomatoes and peaches, during the pandemic we are limited to virtual gleaning. Please consider making a small donation HERE. We will use your donations to buy food from various vendors to deliver to the pantry. Or, you can donate anytime by the click of a button at www.hastingsfarmersmarket.org.

Finally, we are happy to report that our first week without timed entry went swimmingly so we are continuing with the no-reservations system for the foreseeable future.

See you at the market!
