Dear shoppers,
Your patience has been rewarded. After many weeks of requiring reservations to shop inside the market, we are eliminating timed entry this week. So, you can relax. We are still reserving the first hour of shopping for the elderly and immunocompromised so please do not come between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. unless you fall squarely in the vulnerable shopper category. After that, we will be allowing shoppers into the market in small groups at a time. This has been working well at other markets like Irvington and Chappaqua and we hope it goes smoothly here, too. However, if we see that too many shoppers come at once on the early side, we will go back to the timed entry system. There is still plenty left at the market after 11 a.m. (Danny at Hudson Valley Fisheries promises to bring MORE steelhead trout this week).
And, though pre-ordering is not everyone's bag, it does help to reserve your most coveted items, so that you can walk leisurely into the uncrowded market after 11 a.m. to do the rest of your shop.
I thought this week would be a good time to remind you what Wright's Apple Farm's cider donuts look like. They've been selling them in sealed brown paper bags due to Covd-19, and, well, it's just not the same. You are welcome.
Wright's is also bringing gooseberries. These tart berries make great pie fillings and are a perfect tart counterpoint in mixed berry jams. They are particularly delicious in a trad English dessert called a fool. Here's a recipe for a yogurt fool. From Delia Smith, natch.
If your bar cart needs refilling (and whose doesn't these days?) Springbrook Hollow Distillery is here with their popular gin, vodka and limoncello, all made with spring water from the Adirondacks. Selek Middle Eastern Cuisine is also bringing more and more interesting salads and spreads like his beet baba ganoush, and intensely green herb salad. Selek's flavors are clean and bright, just like their hard-to-miss pink banner. Cooperstown Cheese Co. will be away on July 18th so please plan ahead and order twice as much this week. Their delicious cheese made from the milk of grass-fed Jersey and Swiss brown cows keeps! See you at the market!
