June 19, 2021
Whether you are celebrating Juneteenth Day, a father figure, or the official reopening of New York this weekend, chances are, you are going to be gathering around the grill.
We can help you with that.
Harlem Valley Homestead, which is expanding to two tents this week, has beautiful steaks as does R & M Farm. Wil-Hi Farm is bringing coolers full of lamb ready for the grill. (Make sure to buy some fresh thyme or rosemary and Kontoulis Olive Oil for any lamb preparations.)
Morgiewicz Produce is bringing the first sugar snaps of the season. And, yes, these thicker-skinned pods can be thrown on the grill, as in this recipe. You can pick up your fresh ginger from Madura Farms.
Concklins is bringing their first apricots and blueberries of the season and Wright's Farm has their first pick of sweet cherries. If you have guests tonight, you can bake a pie after the market, or, if time is short and your crust-confidence lacking, you can pick up a pie from either Noble Pies or Wright's Farm (both have strawberry rhubarb this week!). You can pre-order from Noble online and from Wright's by calling 845.255.5300).
Or you can pick up a calendula cake from Charlotte's Home Kitchen. Baker/designer Charlotte Boyle's cakes and treats are almost (but not quite) too beautiful to eat.
Stumped as to what to get Dad (or any father figure in your life) for Father's Day. How about a case of Abandoned Cider? Or a bottle of straight rye from Springbrook Hollow Farm Distillery?
Daniel Teboul of Larchmont Charcuterie has put together a fantastic Father's Day basket that includes three different types of artisan Saucisson, and a large chunk of Beef Prosciutto, plus classic French condiments like Dijon mustard and briny cornichons. The basket also comes with its own Opinel, a classic wooden pocket-knife made in the French Alps, in a small factory that has been making these knives since the late 1800s. How special is that? Please email Daniel directly to reserve one.
Perhaps Dad would appreciate getting his steak knives or his favorite wood-cutting ax sharpened by Matt, our resident knife sharpener who is here on the third Saturday of each month.
All this, plus a fantastic jazz band: The Scott Fragala Trio.
See you at the market!
