Start the New Year right!
We decided to add an extra market to our winter schedule to make sure you greet 2023 with a fridge full of all things fresh and local!
If you're hosting, get your charcuterie and cheese from Goode & Local and Cooperstown Cheese Co. Both of our European bakers, Bien Cuit and Wave Hill Breads will be here so you can bank on fantastic bread to grace your table. For a more intimate gathering on Saturday pick up some plump scallops from Pura Vida and serve them in classic fashion with brown butter, lemon and capers. Fancy, yet simple. And reliably delicious.
Don't forget to pick up some pretty Ash Hopper soaps to put in all your bathrooms. They were sorry to miss the last market due to a medical emergency.
Need a hostess gift? Pick up a large jar of Boogie Down Bronx Honey, collected from hives in and around the Bronx. They process their honey in small batches, one hive at a time, which means they never have to filter, dilute or evaporate their honey.
Artisanal sweets make great gifts. La Petite Occasion is back with her toffee and caramels made with local butter, dairy and even local salt!
Raw Chocolate Love is bringing their new line of oat-milk chocolate bars (oat latte, espresso latte and chai latte, which are all outstanding. I know because I was lucky enough to be on the tasting panel for these). Shimon will also be making frothy hot chocolate at the market with his pure, intense chocolate. And Lisa of Luxx Chocolat will have her usual array of top-tier confections, including all the fixings to make the finest hot cocoa at home.
Local potter, Tatjana Kunst, of Mermud Studio, will be here with her delicate candle holders and hand painted cards.
Keep in mind that not everyone will be drinking alcohol this weekend. Pick up some festive Om Kombucha Champagne tea for those who want the bubbles without the buzz.
We've invited Farm Eats BBQ, from Irvington, to bring some of their renowned pulled pork, pulled turkey and pulled beef sandwiches on a brioche roll, with side slaw. And The Fearless Cook, will be rolling in with their converted horse trailer and traveling kitchen dishing out Moroccan fare and their popular CiderChai to keep you warm while you shop.
We are thrilled that Wildcraft Baking Co., famous for their vegetable granolas, will be making an appearance on Friday. Baker Brittany Velucci took some time off to open a small bakery in Irvington and to have a baby but she will sneak in one appearance before we sign out for the year. Lucky us!
Got the sniffles and want to make sure you're in tip top shape to ring in the New Year? Pick up some Annie's Ginger Elixir for a delicious health tonic. Also, talk to Muru at Food is Med about his medicinal teas and spice blends.
Once again, R&M Farms will be donating a pound of ground beef to the Hastings Food Pantry for every pound sold at the market on Friday. After the last market, we delivered 45 pounds of ground beef to families in need and hope to be able to do it again this week. Thanks Ryan and Melody from R & M Farm for your generosity! Also, we collected so many coats at our coat drive that we are able to donate some to the pantry as well as some to homeless New Yorkers, via the fabulous local organization Midnight Run, and to women and children at a local shelter for victims of domestic abuse. Thank you!
I can't think of a better note on which to end the final market blog of the year. We do this for our farmers and food artisans, yes, but also to serve our community. And you are one heck of a community. We can't wait to kick off 2023, which will mark our 25th year in operation.
Stay tuned for (many) celebrations ahead. Until then, Happy New Year to all and see you Friday!
