Happy New Year!
We hope you had happy holiday celebrations, surrounded by those you love best. We are looking forward to spending another year of Saturdays together with you at the market. Hard to believe, but this year the Hastings Farmers Market will celebrate its 25th year! That’s a lot of produce, fish, freshly baked bread, coffee, sangria, chutney, pastured meat, live music, artisanal crafts, and sharpened knives! And that’s not to mention textile donations, recipe exchanges, gleaning, food pantry support, Halloween costume swaps, and much, much more.
Thanks to all of you who shopped our special New Year’s Eve market last Friday. We were lean and mean, but this coming Saturday we’re back with a full complement of favorite vendors. You’ll find it easy to stick to healthy-eating resolutions when you pick up delicate bok choy from Great Joy Farm (so delicious simply sautéed in Kontoulis Family Olive Oil with a sprinkle of sea salt), earthy potatoes and your favorite winter squash from Sun Sprout Farm, and crisp apples from Orchards of Concklin. Pura Vida’s fish is just what the doctor ordered. Try this Roast Cod with little tomatoes and assorted olives with briny olives from Doc Pickle.
Did you know? Some cultures around the world believe that eating pork in the New Year will bring good luck. Fortunately, R & M Farm has got you covered. This comforting Bucatini pasta with pork ragu will keep you fueled and happy in the coming weeks. Pick your favorite pasta from La Trafila Pasta to personalize the dish!
Have you had your fill of holiday sweets? Stop by Noble Pies for a savory Ham, Potato, Cheddar, and Caciocavallo Cheese quiche; ingredients are sourced from Sweetmans Farm and Jersey Girl Cheese. Need a break from cooking? Pick up some tubs of Homespun Chili for an easy, healthy, and delicious weeknight dinner. We’re so happy to DoughCo Bagels is back on the plaza! You’re going to want to make Josh a first stop, as he has a tendency to sell out.
Our textile bin will be back in place, so please feel free to get an early start on your spring cleaning! Also, skip breakfast at home, as market favorite The Fearless Cook Food Truck will be back with their mouth-watering bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits (biscuits made, on the spot, in their wood-fired oven) as well as Morrocan fritters with chermoula and harissa and many other yummy options. No Place Like Home is paying their monthly visit to the market and will offer fugazzeta, corn, or mixed vegetable Argentinian empanadas, hot chicken broth, and much more.
