All things earthy at the market this week..

I don't know what it is about this time of year, when the mornings and nights go cool and the knits and socks come out of the drawers, but I find myself craving the earthy flavor of mushrooms.

Cooked mushrooms, with lots of herbs, of course. As in this incredibly aromaticfresh and foraged wild mushroom stew from Chef David Tanis (formerly of Chez Panisse). It's the perfect thing to add to a bowl of polenta from River Valley Community Grain or to scoop onto a slice of toasted focaccia from Wave Hill Breads, that has been brushed with some Kontoulis Olive Oil and rubbed with a knob of fresh garlic.

Mushrooms are such a nice add to soups and curries, as in this
vegetarian green curry that balances earthiness with airiness. Speaking of curries... Bombay Chutney is here for their once a month visit so remember to stock up as we are definitely entering cozy curry season.

Crispy mushrooms and pasta come together beautifully in this Bon Appétitrecipe. Pick up some bucatini from La Trafila this week to make this belly-warming dish. Don't skimp on earthy shallots which always adds such depth of flavor.

Look for more earthy flavors in Larchmont Charcuterie's pate de campagne, in Escargot Voyageur's leek quiche, and 123 Dough's rustic sourdough loaves and Momo's edamame hummus.

And, of course, check out the earthenware pottery from Chloe Sikirica who is back this week with lots of new vases, bowls, crocks and other vessels in her signature saturated colors.

If you bought some hard cider from Abandoned Cider last month, you're in a good position to make this refreshing fall cocktail using Heimat Liqueur'scranberry nectar. Ute is here this week with her line of farm (or bog) to bottle liqueurs (also in saturated colors) and always sunny disposition.

Hudson River Apiaries is also here in case you need to replenish your honey stock after Rosh Hashanah.

R&M Farms is already taking orders for Thanksgiving turkeys. If you have a specific size bird in mind, talk to Josh at the market.

Local songbird Ursula Hansberry is in the music tent this Saturday. And our favorite Children's Librarian, Allee Manning, will lead story time from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Her theme this week? Autumn, natch.

Thanks for all of your donations to the GreenTree Recycling Bin. The last few hauls have been impressive!

See you at the market!
