Many reasons to celebrate
Last weekend's closing of the Mario Cuomo (Tappan Zee to those of a certain age!) Bridge really threw a wrench (I think there's a pun in there somewhere) in our market! Several staple vendors, Doc Pickle, Orchards of Concklin, Teagevity, and Wrights Orchard, were unable to make the trip to join us. Very happy to report that all lanes of the bridge are open, traffic is whizzing, and that our big market family will be intact again this Saturday!
Happy Rosh Hashanah! 3 x 3 Kitchen has created a delicious and delightful Apple and Honey Challah for your celebrations. Please stop by early as they have a habit of selling out. Hudson River Apiaries will also provide hyper-local honey and you'll have your choice of apples from Wrights Orchard and Orchards of Concklin for your apple noodle kugel or apple turnovers. This holiday brisket recipe is a sure-fire crowd pleaser; grab your brisket from R & M Farm.
Our friends at Harlem Valley Homestead are very pleased to announce that they are going to have a 50% off sale on select steaks as well as a 20% off offer for their kielbasa and hot dogs. Additionally, they're also offering a 20% reduction on their habanada peppers (sweet and without one lick of spice!) peppers and radiccio. Whip up a side salad with radicchio, fresh lemon, extra virgin olive oil from Kontoulis Family Olive Oil, topped with those sweet habanadas (either blistered or raw, your choice!). And, for future reference, they should be fully restocked with pork in the next month or so. Watch this space for updates!
Should you need pork STAT, a quick trip to R & M Farm is in order. Try this Grilled Pork Chops with Burst Blueberry Sauce now, before the blueberry season starts to wind down. At the market tent last week, several of the volunteers were talking about their love for Doc Pickle's Mmmelish; this unique condiment combines their own sweet relish with horseradish-brined sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard. I'm thinking slices of Bien Cuit miche cradling slabs of Jersey Girl cheese from Cooperstown Cheese, greens from Stoneberry Farm, saucisson sec from Larchmont Charcuterie, and a dollop of Mmmelish. Who's with me?
Ici et La is joining us; her drawstring waterproof bathing suit bag was perfect for our summer beach trips. Be sure to check out her collection of reusable (and pretty!) bowl covers. Looking for a teacher or hostess gift? Ash Hopper Botanical Skincare and Paper Pigeon offer unique, artisanal choices.
Manor Sangria and Cooper's Daughter Spirits can help replenish your bar carts. And River Valley Community Grains will help you restock your pantry with farro, buckwheat flour, granola, and more. Not to mention their highly addictive spelt crackers! Perfect for dipping into new-to-market sweet potato chipotle (warming and indulgent) hummus from AYA Hummus!
BronxSoulVision is back, rocking the music tent.
See you at the market!
