And... they're off!
The school year is officially underway. ‘Tis the season of soccer cleats and field hockey sticks piled by the front door, endless permission slips to sign, school book fairs, college visits, lunches to pack, and so much more. You’ve got a lot on your plates, but we’re here to help simplify and de-stress your lives. Make the market a one-stop shop for everything your busy family needs.
Want to win the lunch box game? Bien Cuit’s Health Loaf is a great way to start a yummy sandwich. Add greens from Sun Sprout Farm, a slab of Rascal cheese from McGrath Cheese Co. some Green Goddess hummus from AYA Hummus, top with sliced crisp JonaGold apples from Wright's Farm, and drizzle with honey. Tuck a bottle of Freshly Made freshly-pressed juice into the kiddo’s lunchbox and zip it up! If you’re feeling especially benevolent, you may tuck a chocolate caramel from La Petite Occasion (Yes, she’s back!). Or, you may choose to keep those for yourself. We’re not judging! Please note that confectioner Michele Kim will have a limited amount of caramel apples on hand. Why not grab one or two for the kids to celebrate surviving the first week of school?
Did you know that DoughCo Bagels now also offers tubs of cream cheese to accompany their super-fresh bagels? Buy bagels for the week (they freeze beautifully) and you've got breakfast or lunch set.
Larchmont Charcuterie returns after a mini vacation. And potter Rose Swan will also be on the market plaza. Why not treat yourself to a pretty bowl to for all of your fall apples?
These busy days can lead to that harried, “what in the world will we have for dinner?” feeling. Here’s a simple fix: pick up your favorite pasta from La Trafila Pasta and hearty mushrooms from Windridge Farm to create this simplest mushroom pasta.
All manner of eggplant is showing up in market bins! Whimsical fairy tale eggplants are farmers markets favorites; their tender skin means they don’t need to be peeled or salted before cooking. Try this Roasted Fairy Tale Eggplants and Miniature Tomatoes side dish to serve with grilled lamb chops from Wil-Hi Farm, or bison burgers from Roaming Acres. Or pair eggplant and lamb to make this authentic moussaka.
Not even in the mood to cook? Again, we’ve got you covered! Empa-bakes, our second empanada maker, joins us this week and will be alternating with Villa Emilia empanadas. These are always baked, not fried, and are generously packed with fillings both savory and sweet like ropa vieja with plantains, carnitas, or apple.
And if you’re feeling swept-off-your-feet busy, be sure to pick up a few bottles of Annie’s Ginger Elixir. Even a small glass daily will help tame those start-of-the-school year sniffles that surface when you're feeling run down.
If you think something less righteous is what you need, may we recommend a top notch martini made with estate vodka from 1857 Spirits or gin from Springbrook Hollow Distilleries? Sip, relax, repeat!
If you were too distracted at the market last week to pick up a 2023-2024 school calendar, worry not. The PTSA ladies are back this week and so is the Booster Club. Even our farmers have Yellow Jacket fever as evidenced by the abundance of yellow and green squash at the market last week.
A gentle reminder that the book and textile recycling bin are for books and textiles only. Please do not dump other items which impede our market setup on Saturday mornings.
See you at the market!
