Start as You Mean to Go On
Happy New Year!
We hope your holidays were full of light and love. And, of course, lots of goodies from your favorite Hastings vendors!
Whether you’ve vowed to exercise more, eat healthier, try a dry January, celebrate Three Kings Day, become vegan, give up gluten, all of the above or none of the above, we’re hoping you'll join us on Saturday. It’s the first market of 2024 and we intend, indeed, to start as we mean to go on.
First things first: we are thrilled to announce that Obercreek Farm is rejoining us for another winter season! Their famous bagged greens are just what we all need to get us through the gray winter months. Shake up your salads with the addition of their Hot Shot (mustard greens mix). Feeling like something sturdier? Prepare this Kale and Potato Soup using their Red Russian Kale, potatoes, and add local sausage from R&M Farm.
Four Wall Farm is another exciting vendor joining us for the winter. From Lion’s Mane, Black Pearl King Trumpet, Chestnut, and many varieties of oysters, to a mushroom risotto mix, to a medley of dried ‘shrooms, if you are fond of fungi, these are your people! Try this Mushroom Toast for breakfast (or any other meal you fancy) with a flaky baguette from Wave Hill Bread.
Feeling a bit bloat-y from your holiday festivities? This simple Salmon Sheet Pan Dinner might be just the ticket. Stop by Pura Vida for pink and succulent salmon and augment with the roasting veggies of your choice. Also really excellent for the post-holiday blahs? Annie’s Ginger Elixir! Her namesake elixir is bracingly delicious and super healthy. With its comprehensive support of gut-health and immune system boosting properties, you’ll be ship shape in no time.
Alternatively, maybe you’re tired of all the cooking and washing up? If so, make a few mealtimes easier on yourself by picking up some Homespun Chili. John offers vegan and vegetarian options, such as the vegetable-packed Veggie Picnic and vegan Rockin’ Moroccan. Cock-a-Doodle Bleu Buffalo Chicken is just as yummy as it sounds. Sold frozen, they're a super easy thaw-and-heat meal. Need a great option for the after school hangries? Empabake Empanadas; always baked and never fried, they keep well and reheat in a jiffy.
Are you still catching up on family visits and desperately searching for a lovely hostess gift? Look no further than Ash Hopper Botanical Skincare. Surely someone in your life (maybe you?) deserves a chunky bar or two of their all-natural, creamy soap? Or a piece of Chloe Sikirica’s hand-thrown pottery?
If you celebrate Three Kings Day, also known as Epiphany, you’ll want to try your hand at this traditional pithivier or this Tres Reyes Cake. You’ll find the eggs you need at Harlem Valley Homestead and your flour at River Valley Community Grains and your creamery butter at Maplebrook Creamery.
DoughCo Bagels is still on winter hiatus, but Leila’s Crepe Station will be on the plaza, creating market-driven crepes, both savory and sweet.
See you at the market!
