June 27th

Dear shoppers,

Many of you have been asking how much longer we will continue with timed entry at the market. While some of you have mastered the sign-up system and take the weekly wait in stride others have found it challenging especially now that the sun is beating hard on the commuter lot mid-mornings on a Saturday.

So, this week we are going to continue with timed entry but only until 11. After that, shoppers can walk into the market without a reservation. We will still be counting shoppers and making sure the market remains uncrowded at all times. In all likelihood, you will probably still have to wait in a socially-distanced line to enter the market, you just won't have to wait in a line with a reservation. We'll see how it goes. If it doesn't go well, we will reverse course next week. Of course, masks are still required to enter the market.

What should you look for once you get into the market?

Wright's Farm is bringing sour cherries this week so make sure to pick up some for freezing or canning because while their season is limited their versatility is not.
Most bakers know, for example, that sour cherries are the cherry of choice for pie filling since they tend to hold their shape and texture better than their sweeter cousins in a pie. And they allow the baker to determine the sweetness of the pie. Pies are such a social dessert, but sharing a pie with friends right now is debatable.

Why not make individual sour cherry pies? Check out this clever solution for making personal pies in a muffin pan for these COVID 19 times . It's the perfect thing if you are planning a small, socially-distanced outdoor gathering this weekend for HHS graduation. So are alfajores cookies from Argentine baker Silvia's Kitchen, who is returning this week after a (much too) long hiatus.

Hudson Valley Fisheries is back with their fresh and smoked fillets of steelheat trout. They were a big hit when they came two weeks ago so make sure to pre-order those fillets if you can.

The summer squash is coming in at Sun Sprout Farm and field carrots, too.
There will be a plethora of mushrooms at the market since both Madura Farms and Harlem Valley Homestead will have different varieties on hand. Why not spoil yourself this weekend and make this David Tanis recipe for mushrooms on toast. It's a classic that never disappoints when done right. And David Tanis never steers you wrong.

I scored some feta cheese from Painted Goat last week (remember to pre-order this week for their visit Saturday, July 4th) and I am glad I did because Wil-Hi Lamb is at the market this week and that feta will taste delicious on Mediterranean lamb burgers.

And we are thrilled to report that the Dough Nation Pizza Truck will be back this week. You still can't eat your pie at the market, but you can order it when you are almost done with your market shop and pick it up as you exit the market to take home. Or, If you want to order your pizza well in advance, you can do so here.

See you at the Market!
