We're on the brink of fall...
And it will show at the market this week: The Orchards of Concklin have their new Ginger gold apples, so snappy and tart, Abandoned Hard Cider is here with their dry ciders made from apples “foraged” throughout the Catskills, and Mountaintop Maple Syrup returns with their rich and unctuous cider.
What timing, River Valley Community Grain is also here with buckwheat flour for your Sunday waffles. Pick up some flour (and honey and eggs) to make your own round challah for Rosh Hashanah.
Charlotte's Home Kitchen returns with her new gluten-free sourdough boule- a recipe she's been perfecting for months and months which includes aquafaba, the leftover water from strained chickpeas which she gets, of course, from Jenny at AYA HUMMUS who has plenty to spare.
I so love this teamwork among vendors.
If Charlotte’s here, it means Sofia Tedesco of Sofia's Feast is also in the house. You’ll be happy to know that Sofia’s ravioli machine is working again and so she is bringing plenty of her popular little pasta pockets filled with ingredients like ricotta and leek. Or pick up some spelt rigatoni with one of her house sauces.
Serve with this fall twist on a caprese salad. It’s that time of year when you have to eke out as many tomato recipes as you can before those sweet cherry tomatoes disappear.
If you plan on watching the Queen’s funeral, make sure to have some gin on hand to raise a glass to her majesty, if you haven’t already. Her favorite nip was gin and Dubonnet (2 to !) Springbrook Hollow can help you with the gin if you didn’t pick up any from Neversink Spirits last week.
Forward Roots Kimchi returns on Saturday. Their many fans have been waiting! Try their kimchi in this recipe for crisped kimchi pancakes.
And Wil-Hi Farm is stopy by with all things lamb. The temperatures at night might just warrant a lamb stew, or this braised lamb shoulder with rose turnips and pistachios.
Does your toddler need something special to wear for the upcoming holidays? Zstudio Zsa Zsa will be here this week. Leah’s dresses made with vintage tea towels and produce prints are irresistible.
Finally, a friend of the Concklin family has suffered a terrible injury and is in desperate need of a manual wheelchair. If someone has one to spare, please reach out to us at info@hastingsfarmersmarket.org.
Thank you in advance.
See you at the market!
p.s. Our haul at the Green Tree Recycling Bin last week was EPIC. Keep those textile donations coming!
